THESE ARE OUR VALUES
Due to recent events, your local business and neighborhood associations feel it is important to state that:
We value DIVERSITY and TOLERANCE.
Our community is made of ALL KINDS of people. We have different beliefs and different family structures. We come from all over the world, but we all call Southeast Portland our home.
We all deserve a SAFE place to live and work.
We STAND TOGETHER against harassment and discrimination.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
If you are being harassed, or if you witness harassment:
- Do not engage. Starting a fight will endanger your safety and may endanger the people around you.
- Call the Police. It is illegal for the Portland City police to inquire about your immigration status. If you are worried, have a friend call for you.
- De-escalate and disengage. Do your best to keep yourself and others away from the person who is harassing you. If you are on property you rent, lease or own you have a legal right to ask that person to leave.
- Don’t go alone. Harassers target vulnerable people. Don’t put yourself in danger.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE
Reach out to your neighborhood and business associations. Business and neighborhood associations are made up of people who live and work in your community. We are here for you.
