We are happy to feature Cathy Chang of Concise Communications LLC in our first ever installment of the Fostering Business Profile. In addition to being the CEO and founder of Concise Communications, Cathy is the founder of the Foster Area Freelancers. The Foster Area Business Association has the distinct honor to have some of the most active freelance members in Portland, and Cathy is one of them.
How long have you been in business on Foster?
I’ve been officially a sole proprietorship for 2 years. Before then, I was freelancing periodically while being a stay-at-home parent and homemaker.
What’s your favorite thing about what you do?
I’ve always loved working with words. I was a bookworm as a kid, then studied journalism in college, and spent most of my adult life as an editor. So being able to continue to do what I like best and am good at is pretty incredible to me. It’s even better that I can do this on my own, as my own boss. I get to work when I want, with the people I want, where I want!
What’s the best way to take a break on Foster?
I’ve always loved Bar Carlo. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is the right mix of casual/classy. And there’s a lot of space! Breakfast/brunch can be crazy, so I go earlier because I refuse to wait 45 minutes in line for eggs. But at any other time, it’s great for a tasty, reasonably priced meal or just a cup of coffee/beer.
What snack should we have at the next FABA meeting?
Guava cookies from An Xuyen or chips and guac from Nayar Taqueria!
